PRGloo survey

Swinton citizens have their say about housing

Ryedale District Council is keen to hear what citizens in Swinton think about affordable housing in their area.

A housing needs survey is underway in the parish of Swinton to see if there is a need for affordable homes, either to rent or to buy, for local people.

The survey, supported by Swinton Parish Council is being delivered to all households in the Swinton parish by Ryedale’s Rural Housing Enabler.

Councillor Keane Duncan, Leader of Ryedale District Council said:

"Rural communities in Ryedale are under threat due to a lack of affordable housing. Families who have lived in this countryside for generations are struggling to stay where their roots belong. They need new affordable housing, or they will have no choice but to move away to urban areas. Affordable housing for our citizens is a key priority for Ryedale District Council as detailed in our Council Plan.

"If anyone who has a local connection to Swinton is struggling to buy a house there, or has a home there that isn’t suited to their needs, we’d encourage them to complete the survey.  The information we gather will help make affordable housing schemes for local people become a reality.’’

Households that are not within the geographical area, but still have a strong local connection to the parish can also request a survey. This includes people who don’t currently live in the area, but who were born there, or who have parents or siblings living there.

The questionnaire can also be completed online at

The closing date for the survey is 11th December, 2020. If anyone with a local connection to Swinton is in housing need and would like to complete a paper questionnaire, but hasn’t received one, they can contact Ryedale District Council’s Rural Housing Enabler, Colin Huby, by emailing telephoning 01653 600666 ext. 43354 or requesting a questionnaire by post by writing to Rural Housing Enabler, Ryedale District Council, Ryedale House, Malton, YO17 7HH.
