Special commendation at the National Energy Efficiency Awards 2022

Ryedale District Council has received a special commendation at the National Energy Efficiency Awards 2022.

The District Council made it to the final in the National Council or Local Authority of the Year category at the awards ceremony which was held on Friday 14 October.

The special commendation comes just months after Ryedale District Council beat off strong competition from larger unitary authorities to win Council of the Year at the Yorkshire and the Humber Energy Efficiency Awards in July 2022.

The District Council has a longstanding commitment to improving energy efficiency in our residents' homes dating back to the 1990s.

Phillip Spurr, Director of Place and Resources for Ryedale District Council said: “Our Officers have continuously developed work in this area and provided various innovative schemes to tackle poverty leading to the authority’s current ‘whole house approach’.

“Our rural setting brings unique challenges due to a proportion of residents being off the main gas network and relying on expensive fuel sources to keep warm.

“With energy prices continuing to rise and the cost of living crisis expected to worsen in winter, the Council’s work on fuel poverty has never been more important. We’re delighted that our commitment to providing warm and energy efficient homes for our citizens is being recognised nationally.”
