Ryedale residents invited to have their say on Ryedale District Council’s last budget

Ryedale District Council is seeking the views of citizens, businesses and organisations as it prepares its budget for 2022/23 – which will be its last.

The budget for 2022/23 covers the period from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023.

On 21 July 2021, the government announced that the county, district and borough councils in North Yorkshire will be replaced by a new unitary council. It is expected that the new council will begin to operate on 1 April 2023.

The Budget Consultation provides an opportunity for local people to have their say on the services that Ryedale District Council delivers – from planning to public toilets and litter collection to leisure facilities. It also asks for views on Council Tax rates and charges. The views of citizens will also help shape the priorities for the district as it moves towards a new unitary council.

Councillors will see the results of this consultation before they make a final decision on the budget in February 2022.

Councillor Dinah Keal, Chair of Policy and Resources Committee for Ryedale District Council said: “Ryedale District Council has continued to work hard throughout the COVID pandemic for the communities we serve, whilst dealing with the impact of the government’s announcement of a new unitary council. Despite these challenges, everyone has pulled together to deliver services and support local people and the economy.

“This budget consultation is extremely important and we want to hear as many views as possible.  It’s a chance for our citizens and businesses to have their say about our services for 2022/23 and its ongoing impact for the new council after April 2023.

“We want to set a budget for 2022/23 that addresses the District Council’s aims and objectives. We will continue to work smarter to deliver the services that matter the most to local people and leave our affairs in the best state we can for the new organisation.”

The Budget Consultation is open until 12 noon on Monday 10 January 2021. Complete the survey at:
