Ryedale District Council wins award for fuel poverty project
The North Yorkshire Warm Homes Fund which has provided fully funded central heating to vulnerable householders in Yorkshire has won Large Scale Project of the Year at the Energy Efficiency Awards.
Ryedale District Council supported vulnerable householders helped by the scheme by topping up the funding to allow the new energy efficient first-time central heating systems to be fully funded.
In Ryedale, 16 households have been supported, helping to save citizens money on their energy bills and keep them warm all year round.
Since launch in 2019, the scheme received over £700,000 of funding through various schemes to install A-rated central heating and gas connections.
The project also installed cavity wall and loft insulation to further benefit citizens with their fuel bills and reduce their carbon emissions.
The scheme has saved over £260,000 on the lifetime fuel bills of those who were helped in Ryedale, whilst overcoming multiple challenges posed by the pandemic.
In Yorkshire 12.4% of all households are classified as fuel poor. This project aimed to reduce this number and ease poverty throughout the region.
Phillip Spurr, Programme Director for Economic Development, Business and Partnerships for Ryedale District Council said:
“An award win for the scheme represents the value the project has brought to the district, helping to reduce fuel poverty and household carbon emissions.
“By bringing funding to the area, we have been able to improve heating for vulnerable citizens. This in turn has saved them hundreds of pounds on their energy bills, keeping them warm all year round. It’s also delivered on the aims in our Council Plan of helping citizens become more energy efficient.”
Ryedale District Council worked in partnership with Hambleton District Council, Scarborough Borough Council and North Yorkshire County Council who selected community interest company YES Energy Solutions as project manager.
The project has been given additional funding and there are still some places available for residents to apply by calling YES Energy Solutions on 01422 880 100.
