RDC staff get behind local charities

There was a late Christmas present for a number of Ryedale charities this week, as staff from Ryedale District Council handed over the proceeds of a pre-Christmas fund-raising event.

Employees from Ryedale District Council selected Ryedale Charities Together as their staff charity for 2020.  Throughout the year the staff team will run fund-raising activities and events, with a view to raising money for some of Ryedale’s most worthy charitable organisations.

Ryedale Charities Together is a partnership of seven local charities:  Acorn Community Care, Helmsley Walled Garden, Next Steps, Ryedale Carers’ Support, Ryedale Community Transport, Ryedale Special Families and Sight Support Ryedale.  Together they provide a range of services to people in need across the district.

To mark the start of the fund-raising year, staff members Sally Roger and Jenny Knowles from Ryedale District Council attended a meeting of Ryedale Charities Together in Norton, and handed over a cheque for £143 – the proceeds from the Council’s Christmas Jumper Day event.

The charities in the partnership were delighted to have been chosen as the RDC staff charity for 2020.

Speaking on behalf of Ryedale Charities Together, Ken Gill said:

“It’s fantastic that Council staff are getting behind these local causes, and we’re very grateful for the donation.”

Sally Roger of Ryedale District Council said:

“We really enjoyed presenting this first cheque to Ryedale Charities Together to mark the start of our annual staff fundraising year.  We’ll be doing more to raise money throughout 2020, and we’re already looking forward to coming back in December with a further donation.  These charities do great work and are well worth supporting.”
