More electric vehicle charging points go live in Ryedale

New electric vehicle charging points have gone live in five of the Council’s long-stay car parks to improve the accessibility of electric vehicles to visitors and citizens across the district.

The new sites are:

Cleveland Way, Helmsley

Town Farm, Kirkbymoorside

Vivis Lane, Pickering

Eastgate, Pickering

Wentworth Street, Malton

With charge points also available in St Nicholas Street car park, Norton-on-Derwent and Water Lane car park, Malton, drivers of electric vehicles now have somewhere to park and plug-in when visiting all five of Ryedale’s market towns.

Workplace charging stations are also up-and-running at Ryedale House and Streetscene Depot as part of the Council’s move towards a greener fleet.

This project has been funded by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) and the Energy Saving Trust, in partnership with Ryedale District Council.

Phillip Spurr, Programme Director for Economic Development, Business and Partnerships for Ryedale District Council, said:

“Improving the charging infrastructure is one of the practical steps Ryedale District Council is taking to help reduce carbon emissions.

“We hope that adding more electric vehicle charge points to our car parks will increase consumer confidence to convert to electric vehicles as a more sustainable method of travel.”
