Festive cheer is ‘well underway’ across Ryedale

Ryedale District Council is halfway through its ‘Ryedale Festivities’ campaign to encourage citizens to shop safely and local in the run-up to Christmas.

As part of the campaign, citizens can nominate local businesses that have festive cheer and are doing what they can to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Each week the campaign shines a festive spotlight on a different market town in Ryedale.

So far, citizens have nominated businesses in Helmsley and Kirkbymoorside. This week it is Malton’s turn, then Norton, followed by Pickering.

Councillor Di Keal, Chair of Policy and Resources Committee for Ryedale District Council said:

“It has been a challenging year for many, but I hope Christmas will bring some long awaited fun and festivities for everyone.

“I want to thank every resident and local business of Ryedale for all they have done - and continue to do - in the fight against COVID-19.

“Please join with us in our very local celebration of Ryedale Festivities as we close in on the holiday season. Lots of businesses and residents have been taking part in sharing all the magical festivities happening across Ryedale, with more local business nominations coming in each day.

“Shopping locally is so important in Ryedale - if we don’t use ‘local’, we will lose ‘local’. I regularly shop local in Norton and Malton and can’t wait to see which local businesses receive nominations there - I have put my festive nominations in already.”

Nominations for Pickering need to reach us by 09:00 am on Thursday, 16 December.

Following the Government’s announcement, citizens are reminded that it is now the law to wear face coverings – unless exempt - in shops. For the most up-to-date guidance, visit: www.gov.uk/coronavirus
